MBA Distance Learning Programs: Should you or shouldn’t you?
The economy’s not great, which has a lot of people wondering if it’s a good time to head back to school. After all, if there are less opportunities in the work force, you might as well get ahead on education, right? Well, maybe.
It really depends upon your own unique position, career-wise, and your future career goals. If getting an MBA has been part of your plan for a while, than now may well be the best time for you to start looking at MBA distance learning programs. But if you hadn’t before considered an MBA, don’t just right into getting one just because the economy’s in a rut. Consider you own position first, and what you want to do in the future.
If you are thinking about an MBA for the first time, you need to think–seriously–about specializing. MBA distance learning programs will really only do you more good than professional experience if you get some specialized expertise in the process. And getting an MBA isn’t something you should be considering at all if you don’t have a few years of professional experience under your belt.
For example, if are working as a business manager for a health care facility, getting your healthcare MBA through one of the more specialized MBA distance learning programs may in fact help you get ahead. But consider the job openings in the field now. If there aren’t that many openings, or they’re not in a direction you want to go, it doesn’t matter whether or not you qualify for them.
Getting an MBA is about more than just getting a raise, it’s about determining the future direction of your career. MBA distance learning programs may be the next logical step for you–but not if you’re expecting immediate short term benefits.
